The Modine PTX and BTX are separated combustion gas-fired unit heaters available in seven sizes from 150,000 to 400,000 BTU, in stock and ready to ship. The PTX/BTX series is dual-rated for separated combustion or power-vented installation. Separated combustion draws outside air for the burner, which protects the heat exchanger from dust, humidity, and airborne contaminants in the workspace. Both models support horizontal or vertical venting and can be piped as two-pipe or concentric configurations.

PTX/BTX Ignition and Controls

The PTX/BTX uses an integrated direct spark control board that manages the air mover, inducer, ignition sequence, gas valve, and flame sensing. Ignition is single-stage or two-stage intermittent pilot depending on the model configuration. The unit includes a control step-down transformer from 115V to 24V for gas controls, a remote flame sensor, and a high-limit control switch.

An optional factory-installed Modine Building Management System board is available. The BMS board provides an RS485 interface for BACnet or Modbus communication and accepts either a traditional low-voltage thermostat or a 10K NTC Type III sensor for room feedback.

PTX and BTX Accessories

Available accessories for both models include room thermostats, vent caps, vibration isolation kits, unit transformers, vertical deflector blades, two-point suspension kits, gas conversion kits, high-altitude kits, 30/60/90-degree air deflector hoods, and a summer-winter toggle switch. The BTX adds blower-specific accessories including discharge air transitions, blower enclosure, filter racks, and a blower belt guard.

Gas conversion kits allow field conversion between natural gas and propane. High-altitude kits are required for installations above standard elevation thresholds. Contact us for kit part numbers specific to your PTX or BTX model and size.

PTX/BTX FAQ

What is the difference between the PTX and the BTX?

The PTX uses a propeller fan for open discharge. The BTX uses a centrifugal blower, which allows ductwork connections, discharge air transitions, and filter rack accessories. Both share the same size range, fuel options, and heat exchanger choices.

Can the PTX/BTX be installed as power-vented instead of separated combustion?

Yes. The PTX/BTX is dual-rated for separated combustion or power-vented installation. The venting configuration determines how combustion air is supplied and how exhaust is routed.

Does the PTX/BTX support building automation systems?

Yes. An optional factory-installed BMS board provides RS485 communication for BACnet or Modbus integration. It works with either a low-voltage thermostat or a 10K NTC Type III temperature sensor.
