How to Read Your Catalog Number
The catalog number on the nameplate tells you the fan size, the drive, and the motor, which is everything needed to quote a match. A direct drive unit reads like 120V15D.
| Position |
In 120V15D |
What it means |
| Fan size |
120 |
Direct drive sizes run 101, 120, 135, 150, 165, 180 |
| Model |
V |
V is VCRD, VH is VCRD-HP, VX is VCRD-XP |
| Motor speed |
15 |
10 is 1075, 11 is 1140, 13 is 1300, 15 is 1550, 17 is 1725 RPM |
| Drive |
D |
Direct drive |
| EC ending |
none |
An EC ending marks an electronically commutated motor |
A belt drive unit reads like 150V4B, and the middle number changes meaning. On belt drive it is motor horsepower, not speed.
| Position |
In 150V4B |
What it means |
| Fan size |
150 |
Belt drive sizes run 100 through 490 |

The size at the front also fixes your roof opening, so it decides whether a new fan lands on the curb you already have. Cook curb catalog numbers are below, galvanized first and aluminum second. Weights are less motor.

The catalog number and the serial number are both engraved on the aluminum nameplate. If the catalog number has worn off, our Loren Cook serial number lookup reads the build date off the serial.
Loren Cook Kitchen Exhaust Fan Parts and Accessories
Plenty of buyers land here needing a part, not a whole fan. Heinlein stocks and sources Loren Cook replacement parts across the VCR line, including the motor, the aluminum wheel, the drive belt, and the regreasable pillow block bearings.
VCRD motors are single phase 115 volt. Size 100 runs a shaded pole or permanent split capacitor motor. Sizes 120 through 180 run a permanent split capacitor motor at 1075, 1300, or 1550 RPM, or a split phase motor at 1140 or 1725 RPM, and the speed code in your catalog number tells you which. VCRB belt drive units take open drip proof motors from 1/6 to 1-1/2 HP single phase, or 1/4 to 10 HP three phase.
As an authorized Loren Cook distributor, Heinlein supplies VCR parts for units that are decades old and no longer built, and we can quote either the single part or a complete replacement fan. Have the catalog number and serial number ready and call us.
For grease capture the VCR takes an aluminum grease trough or a Loren Cook Grease Terminator 2. A hinged base or hinge kit opens the fan for cleaning, and a vented extension raises the discharge, which is how most jobs reach the 40 inch outlet height NFPA 96 asks for. On a full kitchen the VCR pairs with a Cook KSP supply fan on a common curb cap.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the VCRD and the VCRB?
VCRD is direct drive. The motor turns the wheel with no belt, so there is less to maintain, and it comes in 6 sizes from 101 to 180. VCRB is belt drive, in 17 sizes from 100 to 490, so it reaches far higher airflow and you can tune fan speed through the drive. Belt drive also adds regreasable pillow block bearings and an automatic belt tensioner option.
Will a new VCR fit the roof curb I already have?
Match the fan size to the roof opening in the table above. Sizes share openings in pairs and groups, so a 120 and a 135 both sit on a 15-1/2 inch opening and use the same RCG-18 or RCA-18 curb. If your opening does not match any listed size, the fan is either a different Cook line or the curb was built on site.
What does the UL 762 listing cover?
UL 762 is the listing for power ventilators handling grease laden air from commercial cooking. The VCR is listed to run continuously at up to 300 degrees F and to keep running through a grease flare up. That listing is what lets the fan be used in an NFPA 96 hood system.
